SNP Announces New Independence Bill

At the SNP conference, the First Minister announced her intention to publish a new Independence Bill in light of the Brexit vote. It will be published next week, and will be open to consultation.

The First Minister also used her welcome address to confirm that the SNP would work alongside other opposition parties in Westminster to vote against the notion of an enabling bill for Brexit to be undertaken, and that she hopes to find ways for Scotland to maintain links with the EU.

It is uncertain if the new bill will eventually led to a renewed effort to gain independence; even if it did, concerns over the Scottish economy –(which would be, at the time of a new referendum) already out with the EU- would once again be raised. The question in that case would be: could economic self-interest be enough to trump over emotion?
