Model Westminster is run entirely by volunteers. We have a number of volunteer opportunities available throughout the year. Whether you’ve got five minutes or five hours a week, we’d love your help. Find out more below

OFFICE LIKE HOME

Work from home, from a coffee shop, from a coworking space — anywhere with a good enough Internet connection. There are no remote workers here, we’re all part of a distributed team. We do have the occasional big team meeting in Central London but if you can’t make it; we’ll make alternative arrangements.

LOVE CONVERSATIONS?

We foster an open, honest and collaborative environment. No ideas are too stupid here and we encourage you to push the boat out. As a small startup social enterprise every one of our volunteers is valued for their contribution. We look for the sort of people who don’t need a lot of supervision in order to do amazing work.

COMPETENCE

  • An understanding of the British Political System.
  • Ability to research effectively and quickly.
  • A positive attitude towards working independently.

TIME FRAME

You set your own work deadlines, you decide how long you want to stay with Model Westminster, we offer short-term and long-term opportunities but are extremely flexible to suit your capacity and availability.

Event Coordinator

Could you be the person to help develop and run our exciting events?

This key role will contribute towards the development, planning and delivery of our events that empower young people with knowledge, skills and confidence to make change both locally and nationally.

The time commitment would be about 5 hours a week, but this can vary.

The deadline to apply for this role is 1 March 2017

Responsibilities
• Contacting and booking speakers for events
• Overseeing pre-event planning and execution, including;
– Putting together Eventbrite pages to manage attendance
– Engaging attendees following event registration to promote attendance
– Contributing to event communications and marketing
– Event ‘on the day’ logistics, including registration on the day of the event
• Post event activities, including;
– Following up with attendees & speakers
– Updating the website with event info and photos

The Key competencies we require are:

    Political knowledge

• An interest in politics and public affairs.
• An understanding of the British Political System.
• A belief in the need for political education

    Event management

• Have a background in event planning/management
• Track record of effectively delivering multiple events at one time
• Ability to work independently
• Organised with strong attention to detail desirable

    Personal

• A flexible entrepreneurial Spirit
• A positive attitude towards working independently

Partnerships & Fundraising Manager

Could you be the person to help us develop strategic partnerships and a fundraising strategy that will see us remain operationally and financially sustainable?

This key role will contribute towards our mission empower young people with knowledge, skills and confidence to make change both locally and nationally.

The time commitment would be about 5 hours a week, but this can vary depending on the event cycle.

The deadline to apply for this role is 27 March 2017

Responsibilities
• Develop and implement a fundraising strategy across full range of channels, potentially including crowdfunding to support core operations and projects
• Identify and maintain relationships with potential partner agencies and key stakeholders to promote MW, create effective partnerships and ensure opportunities are maximized
• Provide information, recommendations and business plans, as required
• Manage, where required, the mobilisation and operation of contracts ensuring charity and contractual requirements are met

The Key competencies we require are:

    Political knowledge

• An interest in politics and public affairs and understanding of the British Political System.
• A belief in the need for political education

    Stakeholder management

• High level interpersonal and presentation skills, able to engage at the top levels of organisations and also organisations that work with young people, such as youth clubs
• Good knowledge of the political landscape, networking skills and experience of working with key stakeholders in the community with be helpful
• Ability to articulate and report key information in a variety of mediums and audiences
• Proven experience and success at operational and strategic level

    Fundraising

• Experience of successful fund raising from Trusts, large Grant givers and Community fundraising.
• A member of the Institute of Fundraising would be helpful.
• Proven ability to analyse and interpret results, using analysis to inform decision-making
• Proactive approach to problem-solving with the confidence to make decisions

    Managerial

• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to lead and inspire a small team of volunteers
• Commitment to an ever-changing organisation.

    Personal

• A flexible entrepreneurial Spirit
• A positive attitude towards working independently
