Digital Democracy Event: a Roundup

Model Westminster held the first of many events on the Tuesday 12th September at Portcullis House. The event in question revolved around the issue of Digital Democracy and was established to aid the Commission’s work on bring a digital future into the British Parliamentary system.

Our Youth Ambassadors threw themselves into the challenges and tasks created for them at the event, which resulted in praise for them by the Commission Officials in attendance. You can read what Grant got up to at the event here:  http://goo.gl/KnzHHz

An event of this magnitude could not have been possible without the help of the hosts: the UK Parliamentary Outreach Service and the Digital Democracy Commission. Our technical partners: Microsoft. Supporters: Cabinet Office, Office of the Parliamentary Counsel, Government Digital Service and Parliament Week, and of course, the Ambassadors.  Without your input this could not have been possible, thank you.

When discussing Digital Democracy, it was enviable that there would be an element of digital engagement throughout, those involved were live tweeting updates using the hashtag ‘MWDigital’, in fact, the event even became a trending topic for a period on Twitter!  That was not all, the day gained coverage in the following media outlets online:

  • Parliament.uk wrote about our day in their ‘Commission News’ section: http://goo.gl/4F35r2
  • A Storify entry was compiled by Mar Dixon, all of the tweets talking about #MWDigital and the obligatory Selfies: http://goo.gl/e5lp74
  • A blog entry was written by the journalist Kat Williams, who was in attendance: http://goo.gl/zkZlGH
  • Model Westminster was also subject to a youtube vlog, made by ambassador Angel Layer: http://goo.gl/mZHE2x

The aim of the event was to discuss the use of digital democracy within the parliamentary. These responses will be subject to a report which will be published at a later date.
